The Love Bugs
Opposites attract…
Not everything about wine has to be complimentary. No palate is the same, sometimes our ideas of good and bad clash. So this Valentine’s we’ve taken two extremes and placed them side by side… for love.
BLOWFLY Merlot 2009 : for us this grape typically yields dark, earthy, meaty wines, but 2009’s La Niña yielded a softer, subtler red. This is a wine that is happy to be paired with summer. Try chilling a bottle and enjoying with your choice of seafood or a wedge of comté. Complex & perfumed nose with cherries & red berries in a fine tannin veil.

CEASE & DESIST Val Cuna 2008: dark and intense. A blend of bold shiraz with a bolder chambourcin, combining for a wine of depth and confounding length. Red meat is the obvious choice, but a dark chocolate fondant makes for a voluptuous after- dinner pairing, and a ripe truffle pecorino takes it to another level. Iron, dark chocolate and red peppercorn nose; sweet, dark berries with hint of crushed ants of Penfolds Grange fame all clad in silky smooth tannins.
